Knowing Eyes 04:43
You do not have to trek a mountain to say you’ve climbed a hill. But it still takes persistence, foresight and will. So if I said I need you, would you stay the same? Would you stoke the fire and bring me in out of the rain. You do not have to live forever to see through knowing eyes. But hard times and foul weather will help you realize. That our time is short here, but love is all we need. To make friends out of strangers and to paint this life’s masterpiece. I once sat in a meadow and asked the wind to reveal. It’s secret way of moving and how that made it feel. She said she listens to the sunshine, it tells her where to go. So I asked the sun for direction, and he said, “boy, how should I know?”

Will you settle in backwards? Will you settle in strong? Will you excuse my bad manners and bring me along? I think we’ve got some good coming, I think enough is enough. I think that dreamers get stronger when the dreaming gets tough. It’s when I miss the old buildings, when they start to fall I realize I’ve seen them all. Well I’ve seen a fortuneteller, and I’ve had my cards read. But I’ll never see the future until my body is dead. And I’ve twisted up believers with my floundering ways. But I’ve satisfied my own keeper with just a little bit of faith. So I’ll keep on testing the water until I come up dry, and then I swear I’ll never ever give it another try. Don’t ask me if I’ve been there. Don’t ask me if you should. Because I can’t promise anything, and besides, I wouldn’t even know where to look. Could you do me a favor when you see me down? Could you tell it to me straight and pick me up off the ground. I’ve had my share of upsets, but I’ve seen a lot of good. And that’s what keeps me hungry for doing what I should. I’ll keep on listening to my father when he says, “stand up tall boy, that’s how you’ll impress them all”.

I believe in the extraordinary. I think it's waiting for me at every corner that I turn. Yet, I believe that I'm ordinary. I feel smaller, even shorter, with every lesson that I learn. Can you define faith? How about reason, and where they collide? Can you shake doubt and start believing from the inside? Neither can I. If I mislead. If I'm uneventful. Do I challenge all the things that I've known to be good? Do I concede to just sit and suffer the consequences of having not done what I should? Can you define faith? How about reason, and where they collide? Can you shake doubt and start believing from the inside? Neither can I.

I am back in Ontario, north Ontario. Back to the pine, back to the shield, the jagged and rolling Canadian shield. I'm looking at timber. Shoreline of Superior. The true fall colours followed by snow. I am back in Ontario. Drove from the west, headed east, man this country's a visual feast! Prevailing winds, they pushed me through. I'm east-bound and keeping true. The rocky skyline showed me a good time. The prairie wheat grass; it almost glows. But I am back in Ontario. I've come back to maple trees with brilliant red maple leaves. We tap 'em when the frost is gone. We tap and tap all day long. And when the spring comes, the sugar sap runs. We'll cook it sticky, then eat it with snow. When I am back in Ontario. Now, don't you snort and don't you frown, I ain't from Toronto town. All them folks, it makes me shiver. I call home the Muskoka River. The cool black water; good swimming in the summer. It freezes over, and I'm skating to the goal screaming "I am from Ontario" Muskeg swamps and pictographs, mosquitos that'll prick your ass. Blueberries and beaver dams. Beaver mamas and her beaver clans. Lake trout fishing; just hoping and a'wishing. The bullfrog choirs singing with all their souls, "We are from Ontario". I am back in Ontario, north Ontario. Back to the pine, back to the shield, the jagged and rolling Canadian shield. I'm looking at timber. Shoreline of Superior. The true fall colours followed by snow. I am back in Ontario.

Well what do you say? I think we should drive away. Cuz, what do you do when your pride is hurt and your back is too? I guess I'll carry on out of fear. Surely I'll die if I stay here. I'm sad and cold and slightly bruised, I'm a tired wreck, but I'm thinking of you. And it was keeping me alive. As I drive and drive and drive and drive. Your pretty blue eyes. How seemingly easy you take flight. I guess I'll carry on out of fear. Surely I'll die if I stay here. I'm sad and cold and slightly bruised, I'm a tired wreck, but I'm thinking of you. And it took days to get to the coast; to glimpse it's waves. But we stayed true. And when I got there I called you. I said that I'd carry on out of fear. Surely I'll die if I stay here. I was sad and cold and slightly bruised, I was a tired wreck, but I was thinking of you.
